JILL TOMANDL
Jill Tomandl is a cosmetic industry innovator, award-winning product developer and package designer, creative director, tastemaker and sustainability advocate. She is currently the Vice President of Global Product Development and Innovation at the Estee Lauder Companies, West Coast Brands including Smashbox, Too Faced and Glamglow. She leads Brand Sustainability for Smashbox.
Throughout her career, she has led the ideation and development of innovative, high performance products driving the growth of cutting-edge, prestige brands including Smashbox, Stila, Too Faced, Prescriptives and Hard Candy. Her inventive and visually impactful package designs tell a story and inspired the evolution of package design in the beauty industry. Her artistic vision combined with technical expertise create first-to-market beauty industry innovation and trends that resonate with consumers including:
•the first long-wearing liquid lipstick creating a new makeup subcategory
•the first makeup compact with audio and visual instructions teaching clients how to apply makeup looks with the Stila Smoky Eye Instructional Talking Palette and franchise
•award-winning makeup with innovative textures, forms, finishes, shades, ingredients and technology
•unique package design featuring unexpected materials from natural agates to electronic sound modules
•innovative, custom package construction utilizing the product and pan shapes to create designs and 3D materials from runway collection moodboards encased in the compact lid
She drove the first-ever 3D printed lipstick launch created with the Estée Lauder Innovation Team for the Smashbox Brand.
Her beauty, fashion, and art collaborations include Marchesa Couture, Arianne Phillips, Donald Robertson, Vlada Haggerty, Yago Hortal and E! Live from the Red Carpet. She initiated and led the Stila for E! Live from the Red Carpet collaboration resulting in multiple prime time product features on E! News, increased brand awareness, and top-selling palettes.
Her work has been featured on runways, the red carpet, fashion and music magazines, editorials, advertisements. film, television, social media and trend forecasts.
She is leading sustainability initiatives including the development of cruelty-free, vegan products, waste and CO2 reduction and social impact. She led the conceptualization and development for the repositioning of Jane Cosmetics to support women’s empowerment and trafficking survivors. She creates custom packaging as refillable art objects.
She designed and tailored custom clothing for concert tours, fashion editorials, advertisements, commercials, couture clients, and film. Her work has been featured in an Apple advertisement, Super Bowl Pepsi commercial with the Spice Girls, The Rolling Stones concert tour, and fashion and music magazines including Vogue, W, and Spin.
She is founding member of ERA and a member of Sustainable Brands, 1% for the Planet, the Environmental Media Association, Cosmetic Executive Women, and mentor for Two Wings. She speaks about innovation and sustainability at industry events and schools including: Makeup In LA/Paris/New York, Beauty Connect, FIDM, and MUD. She delivered the key note on Beauty Industry Innovation at MakeUp In Los Angeles.
She designed and tailored custom pieces for musicians, actors, concert tours, fashion editorials, advertisements, commercials, couture clients and film.
